Wirtz

Mäurer & Wirtz expanded from soaps into washing powder in 1884. After the Second World War, its business was divided between the dalli brand-products division and a cosmetics-and-perfume division; in 1950, Mäurer & Wirtz became responsible for soaps and upscale personal-care products and established the women’s Nonchalance range, followed by the Tabac Original men’s series. The company entered fragrance licensing in 1992 with Betty Barclay and later added s.Oliver and Otto Kern. Since 1990, it has operated as an independent dalli-group subsidiary, with the Wirtz family continuing to own the companies outright. Mäurer & Wirtz acquired 4711, Tosca, Sir Irisch Moos, and Extase in 2006, then took over Baldessarini’s fragrance business in 2012. Effective 18 November 2025, it also became the owner of Herbert Stricker Classic Parfums and The Nose Behind, while both retained their identities, cultures, and operational independence. Its fragrance legacy includes Tabac Original, launched as an Eau de Cologne in 1959, and 4711 Original Eau de Cologne, whose history dates to 1792.
